Introducing The Archive - a new chapter for CDL Australia

CDL Australia is proud to unveil the name of its first build-to-rent project in Melbourne – The Archive.

Now topped out and moving toward completion, The Archive is not only a home, but a place to belong. It’s a space for stories, connections, and community.

The interiors of The Archive have been designed with the same care and intention that underpin its name. Reflecting its ‘space for your story’ ethos, the aesthetic choices throughout the building celebrate diversity and individuality.

From vibrant contemporary works to archival photography, the environment is designed to feel lived in, layered and welcoming from the start.

CDL Australia’s Head of Australia, Cameron Laird, said The Archive was purpose-built for modern renters who wanted their home address to be more than just a place to live, but a place to thrive.

“The Archive will be somewhere stories take place, and where residents can feel a sense of belonging from the very beginning,” he said.

“The name draws on the idea that our homes are where stories gather. The Archive’s curated shared spaces, thoughtfully designed by Hayball Architects, are made to support connections — whether it’s residents reaching out to meet new neighbours, or welcoming their family and friends into a place that already feels like home.”

When residents begin to move in later this year, the stories of The Archive will truly begin. They will unfold through shared smiles between neighbours, the quiet routines and rituals of daily life, and the community-building activities supported by the onsite managers.

With a fully equipped gym, extensive wellness area with saunas and cold plunge, podcast rooms and co-working spaces, as well as a cinema, sky lounge, private dining room and outdoor barbecue areas, it’s easy to see how residents can find everyday opportunities to create new memories without having to leave the homely comforts of The Archive.

Located in the heart of Southbank, The Archive represents not only a new way to rent but a new way to live, with a focus on warmth, community and the quiet joy of feeling at home.

The next chapter of The Archive is already unfolding

The western wall of the building now proudly displays The Archive’s name, accompanied by a QR code linking to the residence’s website: https://thearchivemelbourne.com.au

In the coming weeks, new large-scale artworks will be painted on the western wall, giving pedestrians a glimpse of the stories to come from The Archive.

The Archive’s appointed onsite managers will be announced soon – stay tuned to the CDL Australia LinkedIn page to be the first to know.
