Located in one of Melbourne’s most popular inner-city locations, Fitzroy Fitzroy is a mixed-use development offering both commercial and retail spaces to the city.
Construction has now begun with site hoarding complete, setting the baseline for the heritage façade retention. A steel structure was added earlier this month, to ensure the best preservation of the site possible.
Further façade retention and demolition works are set to be complete before Christmas 2023 with plans to commence in-ground and basement works for early next year.
Once complete, the project will feature 56 high-end apartments and 5 luxury terrace homes, with retail space set to be included on the ground-floor and level 1 within the heritage facade.
The site was once the MacRobertson Steam Confectionery Works, founded in 1880. The building was a firm feature in Melbourne until the brand was later sold to Cadbury in the late 60’s. Paying homage to the rich history of innovation, the construction has a focus on preserving the well-known façade.
The world-class development will also include sustainable practices to better protect the environment. For example, landscaping will utilise drought-tolerant plants to reduce water requirements and 95 per cent of the steel sourced will be from a sustainable steel maker.
Growth in Fitzroy has risen by 6.9 per cent over the past 12 months as the sought-after suburb continues to exceed demand. Along with its vintage stores, restaurants, cafes and live music offerings, it’s close proximity to the CBD is just another contributing factor to the suburb’s success.
Fitzroy Fitzroy is the second Melbourne project under construction in CDL Australia’s growing residential portfolio, with a build-to-rent development on Normanby Rd, Southbank, garnering interest amongst property circles.
