It’s no secret that Brisbane is booming.
From its rapidly growing population to having one of the strongest property markets in the country, Brisbane is having its time in the spotlight – to such an extent that it was named one of the world’s greatest places of 2023, according to TIME Magazine.
Honouring the Queensland capital for its sport and sun, Brisbane was listed among prominent tourist destinations like Vancouver, Naples, Barcelona and Vienna.
With plans for impressive infrastructure and developments to support the 2032 Olympic Games and its rising population, we explore what makes Brisbane one of the world’s greatest places in 2023.
An emerging hot spot for sporting fans
Known as ‘the river city’, Brisbane is set to become a sporting mecca as it prepares to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup later this year. With Brisbane developing a Cross River Rail project to connect the southside to the north, these exciting developments also promise a brand-new live arena in Roma Street which is set to become the city’s home of entertainment.
A key destination for shopping, dining and entertainment
TIME Magazine cited Brisbane’s James Street precinct as a notable destination, complementing the area’s urban development, as local businesses and artisans collaborate in the space under the iconic Moreton Bay fig trees. Nearby Fortitude Valley was praised by TIME for its evolution from a nightclub-centric era to a culinary epicentre. Brisbane’s luxury stores have also expanded along Queen Street Mall in the CBD with an array of high-end options that rival the likes of Sydney and Melbourne’s luxury shopping options.
Luxury hotels to support increased tourism
The emerging Queen’s Wharf project is set to “reposition the riverfront as the central commercial corridor”, providing residents and tourists with a resort-style cityscape that will be home to four luxury hotels, including the Ritz-Carlton and the Rosewood, 50 bars and restaurants, and 2,000 residential apartments.
This development will support the array of luxury dining and accommodation options that already sit proudly in Brisbane’s CBD, including the 5-star Sofitel Brisbane Central hotel, which is being acquired by CDL Australia parent company, City Developments Limited.
CDL Australia’s commitment to providing high-end, sustainable housing in Brisbane
To support Brisbane’s boom and subsequent housing shortage, CDL Australia has committed to provide hundreds of new homes in identified growth suburbs across the city.
With a range of contemporary apartments and townhomes at build-to-sell and build-to-rent projects in Toowong, Kenmore, and Alderley, Head of Development, CDL Australia, Cameron Laird, said the globally backed company was passionate about delivering a range of affordable housing types in Brisbane that still had a focus on luxury, sustainability, and lifestyle.
“Brisbane has been facing a critical shortage of land for townhome and apartment developments for quite some time, due to low interest rates, new council regulations and high levels of interstate migration,” Mr Laird said.
“With a slew of new infrastructure projects coming to the city, coupled with the exciting build-up to the 2032 Olympic Games, CDL Australia is very positive about Brisbane and the opportunity to alleviate some of the pressure home buyers face in the current market.”
