With an impeccable international record for environmental sustainability, who else could create the world’s largest vertical garden for instance. The 2,289 square metre garden, which has earned a place in the Guinness World Records, scales CDL’s stunning 24-storey Tree House condominium in Singapore to help deliver more than $500,000 in energy and water savings a year.

The garden insulates 48 west-facing master bedrooms, reduces heat absorption and lowers the energy needed to cool indoor spaces. The award-winning development is not only a sculptural tour- de-force but pushes the boundaries of sustainable design.

The green wall’s primary function is to serve as a “green lung’’ by filtering pollutants and carbon dioxide out of the air. Its sloped design aids rainwater collection for landscape irrigation elsewhere on the site.

As well as the vertical garden, the building features a “Tree Top Walk” and extensive cantilever sky gardens on the seventh, thirteenth and nineteenth floors of each block to maximise greenery and shade.

Comprising 429 apartments, The Treehouse is just one of CDL’s wide variety of international residential and commercial landmarks. Another project which commands international attention is CDL’s 124-apartment New Futura, which redefines luxury for the ultra-rich in Singapore’s prime District 9.

Designed by internationally renowned award-winning architect, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, New Futura incorporates two 36-storey residential towers featuring stunning architectural fins and dynamic curved balconies.

Already awarded the BCA Green mark Gold Plus honour for sustainable design, special features include elevated decks and sky bridges. CDL is also setting benchmarks in many other ways. The Group’s Brownstone Executive Condominium in Singapore represents one of the world’s largest applications of Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction in a residential project.

Brownstone offers an outstanding lifestyle connected to public transport, with extensive facilities including a sky gym, junior skating rink, numerous pools and lush gardens.

With Brownstone’s design lending itself to the use of prefabricated building modules, the technology is used to boost productivity, with the pieces hoisted into position and assembled in a Lego-like manner.

Prefabrication of modules in factories enhances worksite safety as it means fewer workers onsite, and in turn fewer accidents and less down time. Prefabrication also generates less waste on site. Over the years, CDL has continuously explored sustainable innovations to construct buildings in a simpler, faster and better way.

Since the early 2000s, CDL has started using drywalls for internal partition walls, and prefabricated bathroom units in its new condominiums.

This has led to productivity improvements of up to 80 per cent compared to the conventional way of constructing bathrooms onsite, which involves many wet trades. So far, CDL has installed more than 10,000 prefabricated bathroom units.
