Construction steps up at Fitzroy build-to-sell project

CDL Australia’s joint venture Fitzroy Fitzroy project is progressing well after a recent official groundbreaking ceremony held with our project partners.

The collaboration with leading Melbourne partners Chapter Group and Crema Constructions is an urban renewal project at a well-known site on Smith Street. Cobild has been appointed as the project builder.

Essential works are under way to protect and preserve the site’s heritage façade, which was once part of the MacRobertson Steam Confectionary Works. By carefully marrying the façade with a more contemporary design, the project maintains the architectural significance of this historic area.

Designed by DKO Architecture with landscape architecture by Taylor Cullity Lethlean (TCL), Fitzroy Fitzroy will feature more than 50 luxury apartments plus a collection of five boutique terrace homes as well as retail and commercial offerings on the ground floor and Level 1.

As Melbourne’s first official suburb, Fitzroy is an iconic cultural destination in its latest phase of gentrification, centred around the restaurants, bars, galleries and boutiques on Getrude Street, just a short drive or 20-minute stroll from Fitzroy Fitzroy.

Future residents of Fitzroy Fitzroy will enjoy access to the ‘Smith Club’ – a sophisticated residents-only space for gatherings that will serve as an elegant extension to apartment living areas. Another key feature will be the rooftop, which includes an immersive garden designed TCL together with seating and shade structures amid an expanse of greenery.

The apartment designs and quality has seen owner occupiers dominate buyers at Fitzroy Fitzroy, ranging from young professionals to empty nesters and downsizers.

Earlier this year, an amalgamation of three penthouses on Level 9 set a new price record for the suburb, beating the previous record apartment price by around $4 million. The amalgamated penthouse will consist of a whole floor apartment with four bedrooms, five bathrooms, library, games room, formal lounge, living room, dining room, mud room and butler’s pantry.
